The opportunities for learning using trading cards are endless. From data management in Math, reading and re-writing player bios in Language to locating player places of birth on maps in Social Studies, trading cards are another great way to engage learners at all levels.
Try these quick activities with learners to get started:
- Identify as many different categories as possible that cards could be sorted and organized.
- Write short sentences or a paragraph about what is happening in the action shot of the card.
- How many colours can you find on the card? Can you say the colours in a different language (French, Spanish, etc)?
- Research the player on the card and share 3 achievements they have earned over the course of their career (professionally or as an amateur). Site your references.
- Take two cards and identify the teams. Research the distance in kilometers between the team cities. Imagine you had to plan a trip to go and see a game involving the two teams. Which city would you want to visit to see the game? Plan a 2-day trip including booking a hotel, flight and ticket to the game and hoe much it would cost.
Below are some of the activities that have been tried in classes.
